Dreamworks, despite releasing a few quality things over the years, relies mostly on HEY LOOK WHO’S IN OUR MOVIE. Pixar’s advertising consistently shows nothing to the viewer but the iconic characters and the world they’re in, sometimes coupled with “From the makers of [past quality works]”. And it shows in the work they produce. Maybe if Dreamworks focused on depth, skill, and drawing us into the movie instead of starpower and wacky antics they’d have the same legendary and influential reputation as Pixar achieved in such a short time.
